Before buying appliances or other devices that consume power in Hawaii it's a good idea to check for rebates from https://hawaiienergy.com/for-homes/rebates

This free program rewards consumers on most Hawaii islands for investing in products that conserve energy.  The rebates change frequently so you will want to check before making a purchase.

Today some of the offers include:

  • $200 for upgrading a refrigerator
  • $75 plus free haul away to recycle an older refrigerator
  • $500 for a heat pump water heater
  • $1,000 for a solar hot water heater
  • $150 to tune up an existing solar hot water heater
  • Instant discounts on LED lights.  Check https://hawaiienergy.com/for-homes/promotions for locations.
  • $25-$45 instant rebates on Energy Star rated air conditioners
  • $75 for HVAC tune up.
  • $750 to retrofit central air conditioning
  • $350 for Mini-Split VRF air conditioners
  • $75 on a solar attic fan
  • $100 on a whole house fan
  • $150 for variable frequency drive pool pumps
  • Free LED bulbs, showerheads, and advanced power strips: https://hawaiienergy.com/for-homes/energy-smart-4-homes

Some offers are by email only and have included getting products sent straight to the house.  You can sign up for their emails on the bottom of their web site.

The rebates change and there are limited numbers of them, so you will want to check the web site frequently.

One time they were offering up to a $100 rebate on an Energy Star ceiling fan, and Home Depot was selling some models for under $100, so they were essentially free.

Be sure to check their terms and conditions.  Not all products will qualify for a rebate and some of the services have to be provided by a pre-approved contractor or installer.

Sellers may want to update their appliances to make their home more competitive on the market and these rebates can make it it more affordable.  Buyers can use these resources to save money each month for the long term.
